This blog was created by Joy Ndamukunda and Honorine Perera. Joy Ndamukunda and Honorine Perera are Texas (Houston ISD and Boerne ISD) high school students who were juniors when this blog was created. Their goal was to fill the gaps in educational achievement.
First, we would like to thank the mayor's office of Houston for connecting us with Jo-Anne Reed and Laura Cuellar. We would also like to thank Jo-Anne Reed and Laura Cuellar for putting us on this path. Through Jo-Anne Reed and Laura Cuellar, we, the authors of The Student Initiative were able to meet and collaborate to make this blog possible. We both began with the intent to make a difference in our community and through their help, we were able to achieve that.
The purpose of The Student Initiative blog is to uplift, other students. Traditionally, the voice for students has been adults, which is not an issue. However, it is also important that Students be able to see that they have a voice themselves so they can grow into competent adults. We at The Student Initiative hope to be an example to other students so that they see that they are capable.
